Karen McDougal is by far our favorite centerfold of all time, so it is really an amazing honor to be able to interview her. Karen was selected by to be their Playmate of the Month for December 1997 and their Playmate of the Year for 1998. She was also ranked the second sexiest Playmate of the 1990s by Playboy's readers, coming in just behind Pamela Anderson. Karen is truly one of the most well remembered Playmates, which is saying a lot when you look at the amazing women who have appeared in Playboy over the decades. | What was the first job you ever had?
First job I had was after I graduated high school... At a 50's restaurant called Goldas. Was on Lake Michigan. I took orders/cash register.
If you had not become a model, what do you think you would have done professionally?
I taught pre kindergarten, so I'd probably still be teaching
How did you get your start in modeling?
I entered a local swimwear contest and won, went to state finals and won. Then was sent on to nationals...its there that I met a Playboy photographer.
What made you decide to audition for Playboy?
I always thought the girls were so beautiful and wasn't so confident that I could do it, so I had to try!!
Were you nervous when you got your first call back from Playboy?
I was nervous when I tested for Playboy...but liked the pictures, so felt much more confident about posing.
How did it feel to be selected Playmate of the Month for December 1997?
I was very excited to be chosen as Miss December 97. Only 12 girls a year are chosen out of the many thousands that apply, so I was honored!!
What ran through your mind when the Playmate of the Year announcement came through?
I was shocked when they told me I was selected as PMOY 98...I was still living in Michigan, so I thought I'd never be picked as Playboys top honor. Was so excited that I packed my
bags/house and moved to LA that month....didn't know anyone there, but wanted to pursue a modeling career.
How did your friends and family react to you being in Playboy and being chosen as Playmate of the Year?
My friends were excited for me and very proud. My family was happy as well..my mom, well she wasn't that excited about me taking my clothes off, but she thought I still did it with
class, so she was still proud of me.
Do you still have much contact with the Playboy family?
I do have contact with some of the 'Playboy family'....but now that I'm not working for playboy, there's not a lot of contact.
Have you done much modeling since being in Playboy?
Ive done a lot of modeling since being published in playboy....from national/international ad campaigns, liquor/beer ads/posters, fitness magazine covers and spreads,
lingerie/swimwear companies, etc...too much to list!
Are you planning on pursuing more acting and hosting jobs in the future?
Dont plan on pursuing any acting jobs, lol... But def hosting stuff.
You obviously exercise on a regular basis? What kind and how often?
I do workout a lot (have to with my serious junk food diet...I'm the worst!). I do cardio 5 days a week and do weight 5 days a week. I take 4-6 weeks off around Thanksgiving/Christmas
to enjoy/indulge....and rest my body.
What are your favorite and least favorite parts of your body?
My favorite body part are my eyes (and butt, lol). If I had to pick only one, I would say eyes...since I prefer people to look there! My worst...hmm, prob my hands (they are just like
moms...full of veins)...nothing I can do about that!!
Do you get recognized a lot in real life? Any funny stories?
I do get recognized in real life... I enjoy meeting my fans... even 14 years later. I have very 'loyal' fans and I appreciate every single one of them!
Where did you go on your last vacation?
Last vacation was Turks/Caicos this April... was beautiful
Where is the most exotic location you have shot at?
Probably St. Lucia...where I shot my PMOY layout.
Do you have any pets?
I currently have one cat... Angel. My other 2 (brittany and brandy passed)... and my 2 dogs were to big for me to keep when I moved (puppy was 350lbs, lol... other was 180lbs)... big
boys!
What is the last book you read?
The Bible (Yes, I read a little everyday)!
Do you have a guilty pleasure TV show? Song?
I love Mob Wives, lol... These girls get crazy and I can't imagine living their lives, so I live vicariously through them, lol...
What is your dream car?
I love all cars that are fast! I have a 'lead foot' and enjoy racing cars (just for fun)!! Love motorcycles too!
What is your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Mr P of course!! Lol.. (Patron silver-tequila)
Do you have a hobby that would surprise most people?
Not really a 'hobby', but I love helping people and being a 'light' when I can! Always looking to put a smile on someone’s face
What's your ordinary day like? A day in the life of Karen McDougal...
Hmm... when I'm not working, wake up between 4-6am... eat oatmeal (with protein powder and a greens powder)/green tea and milk), watch Today show... eat some chocolate/another tea, go
to the gym, eat lunch, run errands, chocolate and peanut butter/honey sandwich break, laundry, play with angel, snack time (again), do whatever I need to do, dinner/dessert, computer
if needed and eat more candy/cake/candy bars (what ever is here at that time...always junk in the house to 'cure' my cravings).... then bed around 11ish. Made myself tired just
writing this.... lol. Of course, I always include family/boyfriend/phone calls in the mix.
What's the best way for your fans to contact you?
Fans can contact me to purchase pictures/autographs/posters/ etc at be patient...don't check emails often but will get back to you.
